"The Tropical Smoker" is oil on unframed pre-stretched canvass measuring 20 x 16 inches. This painting is a Melbourne classic and again depicts a tropical volcano threatening upheaval. However, apart from the volcano appearing to be fairly placid and unlike his other paintings, David has shown the water flowing into a lake, as opposed to flowing out of foothills. He wonders if this might signify reversals occurring in the earth just before a major happening.
