"Lilac Lake" is oil on unframed pre-stretched canvass measuring 20 x 16 inches. David painted this picture soon after arising from bed in the morning, having just experienced a dream which included a very bright coloured lilac waterway. In the far background hints of conifers can be seen behind the pronounced fur trees. The foreground, however, is primarily made up of an interesting and colourful mixture of deciduous shrubs and trees. As with many of David's paintings hues of pink are seen in the sky.
