"Sunset Over the Hill" is oil on unframed pre-stretched canvass measuring 20 x 16 inches. This is a fascinating study, as David originally painted a sunset over Ward Hill. However, after the paint had dried, he felt an overpowering urge to put foliage and trees in the foreground, which completely masked the original hues of a pink sea. When asked why, he replied that he felt that this is how Ward Hill looked in the distant past.
